Generation 1 the Children of A.J and Nancy Locke Strahan
1.] William Preston Strahan b.9-2-1842 d.9-19-1862
Served in the Civil War and was attached to Company D. 40th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers enlisting April 29 1862, He was killed in battle a few months later at the Battle of Iuka 19 September 1862 His unit was attached to that of General Sterling Price CSA that Gen. Rosecrans attempted to expel from the area after Shiloh. Over Two Thirds of the combatants of this engagement were killed in this battle. William Preston along with many of his comrades was buried in a trench grave at the site which is now marked by an historic marker.
2.] Lucy Elizabeth b. 1-2-1844 d. 6-6-1852 died as a child she and her sister Sarah Alice died within a two day period
3.] John Moses b. 11-17-1846 d.3-20-1915
Served also in the Civil War attached to Company F of the 1st Mississippi Calvary enlisting July 1864
at Grenada Ms. His Commanding Officer was a Captain Shipp.
